It’s been four months since NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his teenage daughter Gianna passed away in a helicopter crash with seven other passengers.
Although still in mourning, the family he left behind has been working to settle his massive estate.
BodyArmor Stakes
Recently, it was announced that his widow, Vanessa Bryant has inherited a significant amount of money stemming from the late athlete’s stakes in BodyArmor, a brand of sports drink.
Bryant initially invested $5 million for a 10% stake in the company back in 2013. He reportedly made the decision as he believed in the then-budding startup and wanted to support it with both his name and financial backing.
That proved to be a wise move as his stake has reportedly grown to a whopping $200 million, which Vanessa has now inherited.
Bryant was among the largest shareholders in BodyArmor alongside company founder Mike Repole, Coca-Cola, and Keurig Dr. Pepper. Repole, who considered the late basketball player a good friend, said that BodyArmor is Bryant’s business legacy.
The Bryant Fortune
The Los Angeles Lakers player was reportedly valued at $600 million upon his untimely death at just 41 years old. Some estimate his fortune to be higher considering his earnings as an NBA star and the endorsements he scored along the way.
With the $200 million BodyArmor inheritance, it looks like Vanessa would be ending up with a total of $800 million once everything’s said and done. Of course, that inheritance would also be enjoyed by the couple’s three daughters: Natalia,17, Bianka,3, and Capri, who is less than a year old.
It’s worth noting though that it remains unclear whether or not he left a will specifying how his estate would be divided.
Staying Strong
In the end, Vanessa and her children are not likely thinking much about their inheritance at the moment.
As an anonymous source close to the family shared, Vanessa is still dealing with the loss of her husband and daughter. The 38-year-old is reportedly taking time for herself as she copes with moments of depression.
The source also said that Vanessa might be grieving for a long time given her current state today.
That said it’s quite admirable how strong she has kept herself for her daughters. Vanessa has been regularly sharing snippets of a seemingly happy life with her daughters on Instagram.
