Celebrity divorces are high stakes. With millions of money and assets on the line, they’re a story that a lot of people find extremely interesting.
Jennifer Lopez’s split from her then-husband Marc Anthony in 2011 is no exception.
Because the news focused more on the reason for their divorce and custody of their twin children, you may have missed the one asset that the actress-singer lost when her divorce was finalized.
Bye Bye Dolphins
Early on in their marriage, Lopez and Anthony were announced to be minority owners of the NFL team Miami Dolphins. It was a conjugal investment for the couple and was a result of Anthony’s love for football.
Speaking about the decision to buy into a sports team, the ‘You Sang to Me’ singer joked how he even had to get the blessing of his father in law, who was a fan of the Jets. Another thing he joked about is that his then-wife actually owned the majority of his own shares.
Despite that though, Anthony still ended up keeping the Miami Dolphins shares to his name after they divorced. It seems like he was the bigger football fan after all.
Music’s Power Couple
The ex-couple first met in the late ‘90s and sparked a longtime friendship that didn’t turn romantic until much later. In fact, the ‘Let’s Get Loud’ singer would have a string of failed relationships with Diddy, Chris Judd, and Ben Affleck before she and Anthony found their way back to each other again.
Before long, the two musicians were spotted everywhere attending red carpets and performing duets together. They even both starred in a movie called ‘El Cantante’.
Their money-making ventures weren’t just limited to buying stakes in sports teams and making music though. Lopez and Anthony also branched out into the world of fashion with their own line in 2010.
Unfortunately, their budding empire was no more even before it took off.
One More Chance
Lopez might have another chance venturing back into sports though. As you may already know, she’s currently engaged to former New York Yankees shortstop Alex Rodriguez.
The couple are reportedly looking to buy the New York Mets and have tried to assemble a group to do so. It remains unknown what role Lopez might play in the team once the purchase of the Major League Baseball team pushed through.
