TTBillionaires are found plenty in the world today. Now, becoming a trillionaire, that’s a feat that would surely get people talking. No wonder Jeff Bezos’s potential ascension to trillionaire status intrigued a lot of people when reports about it made the rounds recently. But is it possible? Will the Amazon CEO make history as the first person ever to reach the trillion-dollar mark anytime soon?
Truth of the Matter
The answer seems to point to the negative. As news and media website Vox concluded, the reports that say that Bezos would soon be a trillionaire are simply stretching the truth. Worse, the publication said that some reports were just straight-up wrong with the facts they presented.
The primary mistake that Vox pointed out is how a lot of these reports used projections made by the advice platform, Comparisun. The platform-based its forecast on the rise that Bezos’s company has seen in the past half-decade.
Comparisun then concluded that the CEO’s fortune would reach the trillion-dollar mark in 2026 should Amazon’s current upward trend continue over the years. Looking at Bezos’s current fortune, though, this projection seems to be a bit far-fetched.
Amazon’s Future
As Vox further explained, Amazon’s past performance isn’t a reliable indicator of what its future performance would be. The publication particularly pointed out how the online retailer, as an older company, might grow at a much slower rate when compared to younger ones.
After all, Amazon has been in business for over 25 years already. That said, it would even be older a decade from now, making its growth even slower come that time. Thus, Bezos’s chances of becoming a trillionaire by 2026 have also decreased. It doesn’t mean that he’ll never reach that status, though.
Current Net Worth
For now, the business magnate would have to be content with being the wealthiest person in the world. Although he’s nowhere close to having a trillion dollars, he does have an impressive fortune of $146.9 billion, according to Forbes’ latest estimates.
Considering the wealth hit he took just a year ago when he divorced his wife Mackenzie, the fast bounce back his fortune made is astounding enough as it is. Even Bezos himself doesn’t seem to be focused on becoming a trillionaire at the moment. The billionaire has been actively working on using his wealth for charitable causes concerning COVID-19 and sustainability to mention a few.
