The United States is currently facing two crises: the ongoing pandemic and the protests resulting from the brutal murder of George Floyd, a black man, at the hands of a white police officer.

Since then, people have expressed their outrage at another show of brutality by the police force, Celebrities are among the many who have stood up with Floyd and the rest of the African-American community.

Model and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen is one of the stars who showed solidarity through financial support. She particularly pledged to donate $200,000 to help get protestors out of jail after being arrested during protests.

The 34-year-old ‘Cravings’ writer actually announced on Twitter that she would be pledging $100,000 after President Donald Trump declared a Make America Great Again (MAGA) night and called protestors ‘vicious dogs’.

She ended up doubling her donation after a Twitter user allegedly criticized how Teigen supported protestors. The model then replied that the protestors would be needing more money.

Her initial tweet has since been deleted.

This isn’t the first time that Teigen has spoken up against the president. She got in a Twitter exchange with Trump after the head of state called her ‘filthy-mouthed’ and her husband ‘boring’.

The president ended up blocking Teigen on Twitter.

Looking back at the incident, she described feeling ‘weird’ and ‘angry’ at the time. She also shared how she was shocked and in disbelief at what was happening.

The ongoing protests, which have now reached 30 American cities, just a few days after the video of the incident that led to Floyd’s death surfaced online.

In the video, a Minneapolis police officer, now identified as Derek Chauvin, can be seen choking Floyd on the ground as the man pleaded saying that he couldn’t breathe.

The incident, seen as another show of police brutality and racial injustice targeted at black people, led to both peaceful and violent protests.

Hashtags pertaining to the protests and the #BlackLivesMatter movement have also started trending once again.
